Walking in Circles

It is true that people lost in the woods or in a desert will walk in a circular pattern, particularly counterclockwise. There have been many research studies that have proved this phenomenon.

To walk in a straight trajectory, land navigators will fix their sight on an unmovable object such as a tree or some other landmark. Even those who use a compass will align their compass reading on a landmark in the distance to set their course of direction. Once they arrive at the first landmark, they will sight another landmark with their compass bearing and continue their journey repeating the process to arrive at their destination.

In life, many people walk in circles. They are aimless in their journey and like a ball in a pinball machine, they just bounce from one point to the next. They have no bearing of direction. They have not chosen a landmark or a standard. Then after many failures of lostness they will proclaim they are just unlucky when they are actually lost.

When we set our sights on Jesus and walk in a trajectory that aligns with the Word of God, we cease being wanders and become journeyers. Life is too short and eternity is too long for us to haphazardly wander through life without a true spiritual bearing.

Please do not fall in the trap of any spirituality. I have heard lost people proclaim that they are very spiritual. Guess what, we all are spiritual beings, but of what spirit are you? Demons are spiritual beings.

Jesus had a discussion with His disciples in John 14:4-6 (NKJV) about His going away and them be rejoined with Him. They were confused. Part of the conversation went like this: “And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Jesus declared that He was “the way, the truth, and the life”. He did not use an indefinite article “a” but the definite article “the.” Don’t be deceived in the lie that there are many paths of truth, an assortment of spiritual gurus, and many gateways to Heaven. There is one and it is only in Jesus Christ.

Are you tired of walking in circles and never arriving at the purpose for which you were born?

Surrender yourself in your brokenness and sin to the only One who can rescue you from the wilderness of circles. He will set you on course and lead you in the straight way you should go.

Yours on the Journey,
