If you follow any news, there is no question that there is an evil darkness in the world. People are frantic about what to do. In the United States we have had two mass killings almost back-to-back. In the political world there has been a rush to win the blame game. All have agreed that evil is at work, but no one wants to really name the true source of evil. Satan is on a rampage to kill, steal, and destroy but to the world elites, this would only be an archaic, outdated, and even unthinkable description of the source of this type of evil.
Counterpoint to the devilish darkness are the words of Jesus as stated in John 8:12 (NKJV), “…I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” There is an overlooked linkage of words here, as in “the light of life”. Life is attributed to light as in opposition to darkness that brings about death. Even in the beginning as described in Genesis, there was a darkness upon the face of the waters and the first thing God spoke into existence was light. So before the world could be teeming with life, there was the necessity of light.
Light and life go together. And the opposite is also true–where there is darkness, there is death.
Jesus said He was the light of world and then on the Sermon on the Mount, he declared (to His disciples), “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14 NKJV). We as the disciples of Christ, are also the light of the world. Why? How? Mainly, because we are in Him and He is in us. He said, “He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12 NKJV). As we live out our lives in the light of Jesus and loving as He loves, we promote life in all of its aspects.
The problem we have in the world is that the evil of darkness gains the control of the hearts and souls of people deceptively. It is a subtle darkness that creeps into men’s souls. We are born with a sinful nature. The system of this world is so designed by the enemy that darkness prevails in the hearts of the unknowing. As men give into the desires of the flesh and believe the lies of the world–their very souls can become dark and deprived of the Light of God. Just read Romans chapter one to see how man slides deeper and deeper into depravity because they first ignore God and then denounce Him and His ways. Many who would literally laugh at this post are held in the dark grip and are so deceived to actually believe they are the enlightened ones. So sad!!
The culture of our world has scoffed at the principles of God and embraced death instead of life. Why are we then surprised when a depraved soul kills with no regard to life? We have relegated Jesus to an equal of some spiritual guru and embraced true religion as just another self-help method.
The answer is too simple to be embraced by the futile-minded intellectuals. We must follow Jesus and live by the principles of God’s Word that embraces and promotes light, life, and love. Oh, I can hear the scoffers now!! You can denounce the messenger but the truth is undeniable in the eternal zone.
My simple reply to the scoffers, “How is your way working out to solve the problems of the world??” Darkness times darkness is just more darkness which can only lead to more death. Receive the light of Christ and walk in the light and love that promotes and yields more life.
