Mother’s Day rolls around every year to give honor to our mothers. We shower our living mothers with presents, special meals, and recognition. Those who have gone from our midst, we shower with accolades of remembrance and honor.
This year I thought about the generational line of women in my life from my grandparents to my four granddaughters. The grandmothers to the mothers of the future.

There is an eighteen-inch difference between true salvation and mere mental assent—the distance between the head and the heart yet it is eternity long.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that we in the American church probably like to talk about prayer more than we pray. Prayer takes time and we are too busy checking out YouTube and Facebook. Ouch!
Anytime I have ministered in a church in one of the eastern nations, at least 80% of the congregation wants personal prayer at the end of the service. I have even had some bring their own oil with which to be anointed.

A lingering question is asked these days given the situation we see in our world, “What can we do?” It is an earthly question with a spiritual answer. Much of what people see as a cultural shift, political upheaval, or religious persecution is a spiritual manifestation.

My mother grew up during the Great Depression in a sharecropper’s family. I remember her saying that she did not think of herself as being poor because just about everyone she knew was in the same situation.
We live in a very broken world, but we have adjusted our eyes to the darkness and call it normal.

One of my favorite mission scriptures is Mark 16:15 (NKJV) where Jesus told His disciples, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” He left no place untouched and left no one out—His Gospel is to all the world and to every person. The word “creature” in this scripture is not a demeaning term but speaks to the original formation of the being. The world divides men into races, politics, football teams, classes, etc., but God sees all people as the original formation who were created to be in a personal relationship with Himself.

I have travelled long distances alone. I am not saying it is a preferred way to travel but not an unpleasant experience as some may think. There is joy and comfort with traveling partners or family but being alone has some pluses also. I love being with people but sometimes I need a little solitude. I can be quite comfortable being alone.

About one year ago, Butch Suddath and I returned to the United States from a mission trip from Asia on January 21, 2020. The news reports were trickling in about a coronavirus from China before we left, but it was mostly a dot on most people’s radar screen. The day we returned to the Atlanta Airport, the first confirmed case in the United States was announced with an individual in Washington state. It progressively grew worse.

Yeah, I Christianized the acrostic a little. Most of us have heard of the acrostic KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid), so my modified version is a little less offensive.
Human beings can complicate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Sometimes we just need to get two pieces of white bread, smear some PB&J on it and go with it.
