Going back to when I was a young man, there are three questions I would want to ask God. Perhaps they may be yours as well. God, why am I here? God, what do You want me to do? God, how can I make a difference in this world?
Today with six decades and counting, please humor this old man and give me a little latitude to answer as if God were answering the questions for you and me.
God, Why Am I Here?
You are not an accident. Before the planets began their orbit, I destined you to be. I set the date of your birth and planned a course for your life. Your parents may have called you an “oops baby” or some may have called you a mishap, but you are not an oops to Me nor are you a “hap that missed”.
Remember the words, I gave the Psalmist, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well” (Psalms 139:14 NKJV).
You were born because I deeply desired to have a relationship with you. You are extremely special, there has never been one like you nor will there ever be. You are unique, I designed you in my heart of love and in my mind of wisdom I formed you. No one else touches My heart like you do. I smile when your name is mentioned. I gifted you for My purpose.
“I chose you in Jesus before the foundation of the world, that you should be holy and without blame before Me in love, I predestined you as an adopted son by My Son, Jesus Christ unto Myself, according to the good pleasure of My will” (paraphrased from Ephesians 1:4-5).
God, What Do You Want Me To Do?
Receive My Son Jesus, commit your life to Him and live as He lived. Study my Word. Pray! Live among my children. Tell the dying where you received life.
Too many people want to change the world, they first need to change their world. I have placed you in a circle of people—your family, your faith family, your friends, neighbors, and those with whom you work. Change the atmosphere of your circle. When you are faithful in your small circle, I will draw you into a larger one. Be faithful where you are, and I will take you beyond your horizon.
Don’t worry about doing something big. Do each of the small things like it was a big thing.
Take the journey of life only with those who have the same destination.
Be a friend to the wayward, be a brother to the faithful.
Your life will be made from the small victories, by consistently doing the small and simple things each day.
Live your life in Me and obey my Word.
Love Me with all your heart and love your neighbor as your own heart.
Start with the first things I put into your hands and do them without complaining. Show yourself faithful and you will see My faithfulness revealed in your life. Obey me and I will open doors you cannot open, and I will lead you in the correct path.
God, How Can I Make A Difference?
You can make a difference by being different than most of the people in the world. Most people prefer the approval of people more than the approval of Me. When you learn to die to yourself, you learn to live in Me. You will make a difference by being different than the World.
Obey Me and My Word. Follow the example of My Son Jesus and follow Him.
“Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8 NKJV).
Be different than the World:
The world is a hateful place, so let love be the characteristic for which you are known.
The world is a selfish place, so be selfless in service.
The world is convenience driven, so allow yourself to be inconvenienced for others.
The world is going to Hell in a handbasket, start plucking people from the basket.
The world is a negative place, so be positive. Find something good to say.
The world is a place of the dying, so be a healer.
Call people by their name. Be gentle to the young and old. Be kind to your peers and strangers.
Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and those in jail, and give a drink of water to the thirsty.
The world loves negative stuff (negative stuff makes the news)—never make the news.
Lose your life in My Life. Do for Me what others would never dare to do.
When you leave earth, make sure there is someone, whose life was a little better because you were there.
Do not be concerned about your legacy. Names on earth grow dim but the faithful are celebrated in Heaven forever.
Invest in eternity. Do not be swayed by what is vanishing.
Make sure there will be someone in Heaven because you were on earth.
When someone goes to Hell, be sure they go over your objections. For them to go to Hell, they must: trample over your prayers, scoff at your witness, not return your calls, not answer the door you knock, and reject the Savior whom you proclaim.
Just be who I designed you to be, not the mold of any man, any group, or even you.
GOD: Anymore questions young man?
ME: Yes, Lord, when will I die?
GOD: When I’m finished with your purpose on earth.
GOD: Anymore?
ME: Lord, the world can be very difficult and a real, scary place; will You always be with me?
GOD: Every day and all the way!!
Yours on the Journey,
