The coronavirus situation has not only dominated the news, it has also dominated our lives with schools closing, Stay At Home Orders, and churches having only live stream church services. We are in difficult days and we are not sure when the end date will be.
We originally had two mission trips planned; one to Cuba in May and one to Haiti in June. The Cuba trip has been postponed to October and travel to Haiti is almost out of the question at this time. The State Department has Haiti at its highest travel advisory, Level 4—Do Not Travel for reasons other than the coronavirus. In addition to that, as of March 31, 2020 the State Department has issued Global Level 4 Health Advisory – Do Not Travel (anywhere internationally) because of the coronavirus.
There are difficulties all over the world associated with the coronavirus. Even in the developed countries, they are struggling to keep up with proper protective equipment and ventilators. I can only imagine the problems that would ensue if there were an intense outbreak in Haiti or another third world country. As I write this, there have been twenty-one confirmed cases in Haiti and one death. In the hospitals in Port au Prince, many of the medical staff have fled the hospitals because they are not properly equipped to protect themselves from the virus. Of course, the government has promised them supplies but they know it is an empty promise. We pray for God’s mercy.
Our partners in ministry around the world are finding life difficult. In India, the whole country is in strict lockdown. Only one member of the family is allowed to go out for only three hours per day to acquire food and other necessary things. Pakistan is also under quarantine type restrictions and have deployed their troops to help with medical needs and to stop the spread of the pandemic.
Our Good Friday CrossWalk is still scheduled from Gadsden to Guntersville, Alabama. There will be thirteen different segments ranging from two miles to four each, with over twenty cross-bearers. We will be able to keep the walk within the bounds of the coronavirus guidelines. This year more than ever, folks need to see the cross and remember our Savior who died so we could live. The following Sunday we will celebrate Jesus’ resurrection–life from the midst of death.
We appreciate your continued support of Pathway Outreach Ministries. You help us to show the love and life of Jesus around the world. In times like this your loving support is even more important. Thank you so much for helping us help others.
We pray for the Lord to protect you and your family from sickness and harm. “Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, / No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; / For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways” (Psalms 91:9-11 NKJV).
Rejoicing in the salvation which is by grace through faith, I am…
Yours on the Journey,
Harry L. Whitt
