But, Even Now

Life is difficult. Bad things happen. Many times, things happen that are hard for us to grasp and understand. We must trust God in every situation.

Near Jerusalem was the town of Bethany where Jesus had some very special friends. Lazarus and his two sisters, Mary and Martha. Lazarus became very sick and his sisters sent word for Jesus to come and heal him. Jesus delayed going. When He finally went, Lazarus was dead. As a matter of fact, by the time he arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been dead for four days.

Once they had sent the message of their brother’s severe illness, I can imagine every knock at the door brought a wave of hope that it was Jesus arriving to heal their brother. But Jesus never showed up while Lazarus was alive. Jesus told His disciples that their delay was for the purpose of the Son of God receiving glory. That statement probably flew right over their heads like many other things Jesus had said.

Obscurity in a Crowded World

I know God has called some of us to the dark and difficult corners of the world to carry the light of Jesus. Perhaps, He wants some of us to be cloaked in obscurity to find those who are the forgotten lost and tell them, “Yes, God loves you and He has sent me to tell you that His love is expressed in His Son Jesus. You are not forgotten nor hidden from His eyes.”

God has called us not only to the forgotten lost but also to the hidden servants who labor tirelessly in the Kingdom of God. The Word of God says, “And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward” (Matthew 10:42 NKJV). The cup of cold water could be encouragement and fellowship to those who labor in the Kingdom of God in obscure places of the world.

Better and Faster Than Fiber Optic

Living out in the country has many benefits. I am a country boy at heart and in the flesh. I love not having my backyard joined to another. A big disadvantage since the dawn of high-speed internet is living out in the sticks. Our internet has been painfully slow. Hope is on the way, in about six weeks or so, gigabytes will arrive. We have fiber optic internet coming soon. WooHoo!

Some of the line workers have been in our area. Salesmen have been knocking on our doors and we have been saying, “Where can we sign!”

One of the line splicers was working in my yard today. Nice guy! Being the old man with a thousand questions, I was hindering his work like ole men tend to do. He showed me the single strain of the fiber optic. It is amazing the information and signals that can travel that little glass-like, hair-thin wire.
