Wars and Rumors of War

Wars are troubling and the rumors of war strike fear in the hearts of reasonable men. Jesus told four of his disciples as He sat on the Mount of Olives a few days before His crucifixion, “But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet” (Mark 13:7 NKJV).

In our broken and fallen world, war is easily predictable. Something was up when one of the first brothers, Cain, killed his brother Abel. The history of the world is more punctuated with wars as a long sentence is filled with commas.

We sometimes hear a speaker make a “stolen land acknowledgment” to sound virtuous. I think he/she surely failed World History 101. Most plots of ground have been fought over numerous conflicts from ancient times. Whether it was tribal conflicts with spears or countries with missiles. All land has blood on it. Conquest like war, is the punctuation in the historical sentence of world history.

The Great War as it was first called in the second decade of the 1900s was also called the “The War to End All Wars.” Today it is known as World War 1. When World War 2 started, it had to be renamed because both names were inaccurate terms.

I hate wars. Are they necessary? Sometimes. Tyrants must be dealt with to have some semblance of order in the world. Can you imagine if Hitler had not been opposed by the world?

Peace through strength is costly in dollars and lives. One must ask the question, how costly in livelihood and lives if tyrants ruled the world.
I am not an expert on global affairs. I can tell you one thing for sure, if humans roam the planet as it is, there will be conflicts and wars.

There will always be wars until the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ comes again to make things right. According to the scriptures (Revelation chapter 19), even when He first gets here, there will be some reckoning until peace prevails.

So, what are we supposed to do? Keep living your Christian life. Pray, worship, study, witness, feed the hungry, comfort the dishearten, heal the sick, pray for our leaders, care for our friends and family, and enjoy the blessings of this day.

Chill, an accident, sickness, or old age is more likely to take you out before a bomb gets you!

Yours on the Journey,
