How Grace and Mercy Lead to Peace with God

In the church world we throw around words and catch phases until they become threadbare of their meaning. Paul used the three terms of grace, mercy, and peace in his salutations to his spiritual sons. Here is one, “To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Tim. 1:2 NKJV).

Peace always follows grace and mercy. It is impossible to have true peace with God without the blessings of grace and mercy. Since we were born with a sin nature, it is impossible to have peace with God without them. We can’t outside of these two make ourselves compatible with God’s peace.

We can measure twice and cut once. We can fill the cracks with putty and sand until smooth. We can put three coats of paint on a stairway to Heaven. Still, it will not reach!

There is no stairway to Heaven, only a cross of rough lumber. It is stained with blood, where our Savior died for our sins. There in His loving mercy, He purchased the only grace that our Father will accept. Again, grace and mercy brings us peace with God.

Someone once said that “grace gives us what we did not deserve, and mercy saves us from what we deserved.” So, I deserved God’s wrath because of my sins but God’s mercy rescued me from the pit. I deserved nothing of God’s blessings and peace yet by His grace He has made me a joint-heir with Christ.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Romans 5:1-2 NKJV

One day I was a walking dead man in my sin. God reached out with His hand of mercy. By the revelation of the Holy Spirit, I knew that Jesus died for my sin, shame, and guilt. I believed He had been resurrected from the dead. By His resurrection, He made a way for me to have a new life in Him. Upon believing and confessing Christ as my Savior and Lord, I entered the spiritual sphere of grace. Suddenly, the peace of God flooded my inner man and all around me was the peace of God.

You can’t know true peace without knowing Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Believe in Him. Repent of your sins. Accept Christ into your life. Verbally confess Jesus as your Savior and Lord!
