Foolish Men

It is a foolish man to question God, as if his insight is greater than God’s wisdom. The very thought of this is laughable. When we compare the wisdom of man to the wisdom of God, it is like comparing a one cell organism to a million Einstein-like scholars.

To shake our fist at God, as if we know better than Him, is an outrageous act of pride and arrogance. Our present society is destroying itself in its own ignorant arrogance. The scripture in Romans 1:21-22 (NKJV) spells it out very plainly, “Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. / Professing to be wise, they became fools.”

It is not necessarily wrong to ask God “Why?” if it is asked in a spirit of humility with a perspective of His greater understanding. We cross the line when we foolishly think we have the best idea and God and/or the Bible has it all wrong. I prefer to stake my life and well-being on God rather than some bespeckled brainiac who doesn’t know how to butter his toast. Remember what Paul said in Romans 3:4, “Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar.”

If I think back to the wrong decisions in my life, there was God tapping me on the shoulder saying, “Listen to Me!” while I turned a deaf ear to His voice. I convinced myself I knew the best path. Looking back, I clearly see the stupidity in that moment as the seeds of my arrogance eventually revealed the wisdom of God.

It breaks my heart to hear of someone having a self-induced failure in life. Often, when I receive the bad news, the words of scripture come to my mind, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7 NKJV).

To ignore the wisdom and direction of God is a guaranteed path to failure for a person, a family, and even for a nation. As I stated above, our society is destroying itself with its own arrogance. The so-called enlightenment is an inaccurate term because at its heart is darkness. “Their foolish hearts were [are] darkened” (Rom. 1:22).

Satanic deception is at the heart of this attempt to destroy all that is right, good, and of God. In the first deception of earth, Satan sowed doubt on the wisdom of God by asking Eve, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” (Gen. 3:1).

This basic question of Satan has been morphed into many other deceptive forms such as: “Why would God say such a thing?” If God is a God of love, would He really punish me for that?” “Does that really make any sense at all?” “Well, my Daddy always said…” “I know what the Bible says, but this is what I believe…”

I could belabor this point more, but I will end with the teaching of Jesus as He finished his great Sermon on the Mount. We need to listen and heed the wisdom of His words:

Matthew 7:24-27 NKJV
(24) “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
(25) and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
(26) “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
(27) and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Praying for the best in your life, but you will need to listen to God for it to happen.

Yours on the Journey,

Harry L. Whitt
