Tick-Tock goes the clock. It is strange how slow the minute hands move if we are impatiently waiting. Then in comparison, how fast they seem to move when we are late and scrambling to get ready and out the door. The span of our lives is constructed by moments.
I scratch my head in amazement when I hear of some fellow who has written thirty books, traveled to all fifty states in the United States, and journeyed to eighty countries of the world. How did he have the time (and money) to do all of that? That question remains unanswered for me.
The entirety of our life’s work will be the result of the many little tasks and efforts we accomplish each day. A little drip of water on a rock over time will eventually bore a hole in the rock. Actions plus moments of time build a lifetime.
James 4:13-15 NKJV Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; / whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. / Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that."
Whether we are rich, poor, or middle class we all have 1440 minutes in every day and only God knows how many days we will have. I have just turned sixty-eight years old and so have more behind me than ahead of me. I still have a list of things to do.
Whether you are young or old, we all need to be mindful of a few things concerning the task ahead. Listen to the words of Jesus who lived thirty-three years on earth and whose ministry was only the last three years of His life, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work” (John 9:4 NKJV).
Be Intentional
There are many things we may want to accomplish in life, but if we haphazardly go about our days, we will accomplish little. We need to realize our life’s purpose and find a strategy to accomplish it. Set your sights on the goal and intentionally pursue it. God’s purpose will find us if we submit to Him and obediently follow Jesus. An obedient servant of God cannot miss their destiny.
Be Diligent
Staying on task among distractions is difficult to do. The world is full of distractions that will cause us to waste our time on frivolous activities and prevent us from accomplishing the most important. Even with that being said, we need to enjoy life and not become workaholics who avoid rest and recreation. Live a balanced life.
Diligence is all about doing the needful thing first. If there are two or more things to do, we should do the most difficult thing first. We should strive to accomplish something good and productive each day.
Wrapping It Up
Trust me, life is fast. It seems like just a few years ago, I was a young boy in school, but now I am an older man. I have a long list of things I wished I had done, but we all need to move forward not look back in regret. Regret is a day we can no longer live in or redo.
Let’s just try to make the most of what we have left and accomplish something in the Kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 3:11-15 NKJV
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. / Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, / each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. / If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. / If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
Stay busy, enjoy life, serve God and others, live a life of submission to God, accomplish something every day, and let the path behind you be better because you walked it.
Yours on the Journey,
Harry L. Whitt

As we get older our energy level is lower. We have to pace ourselves. I run out of steam before I run out of things to do.
