How Much Does It Cost?

NOTE: This blog post was originally written and shared by me in 2018. I thought I would give it a quick edit and run it through the rinse cycle one more time!

How Much Does It Cost?

“How much does it cost?”, it is a question we ask when we shop.  But life is a series of questions of, “How much does it cost?”  It all comes down to value.  Everything has a value fixed at a different level by different people.  What do we really value?

Money is a common exchange reference. In our economy, we assign value to things and services. Then there are experiences like the birth of a child, baptism, wedding, or an adventure that we call priceless.

Everything in life has a value. We exchange our time to do one thing and not another because of the comparison of value. We decide to spend time with one person while deciding or not choosing to spend time with another. We value everything and make our decisions based on the value we place on it.

So, I guess the big question is, “What do we say we value the most?”  And the follow-up question, “Does our decisions show what we say we value?”

Someone once said, “Everyone has a god (God) and pays a tithe to that god (God).” Jesus said this, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul. Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul” (Matthew 16:26 NKJV)?

Every minute of our lives, every dollar of our treasure, and every expenditure of our energy declares what we truly value.

What eternal and true gold are we trading for scraps of paper or rusty metal?
