History-Long Hatred of Children: A Ploy of Satan

Children are the most vulnerable humans on the planet. They are very dependent upon adults for provision, shelter, protection, and education. Through the course of world history, children have been neglected and worse of all targeted for exploitation or even destruction. Why?

In our present age, we see children used as slave labor, sex slaves, so-called collateral damage in endless wars, starved by abject poverty, and easy fields for organ harvesting in less humane societies.

Then in our more so-called civilized cultures, we see children harmed in sex abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, objects of child pornography, sexual mutilation, destructive drug therapy, warped by dysfunctional families, and killed by abortion.

Induced abortion has become a hot button issue in our country, especially in our divisive political environment. According to WHO (World Health Organization) there are around 73 million induced abortions worldwide each year. That accounts for about 200 thousand abortions each day.

The Guttmacher Institute claims there were over 930 thousand abortions in the United States in 2020. From 1975-2012, each year there were over 1 million abortions per year. The CDC has lower numbers, but interestingly, they rely on voluntary reports from states and at least three or more states have not reported since 1998.

Since 1973, there have been over 65 million abortions in the United States—to put that in perspective that number is about 3 million shy of the combined populations of our two most populous states, California and Texas.

Redemptive Note: If you found yourself in a difficult place in life and had an abortion; I am sorry for your predicament, pain, regret, guilt, or loss. I am not dismissive about your difficulties or hard decisions. Rather, I believe forgiveness, deliverance, recovery, and healing can be found only in Jesus Christ for you, me, and everyone regardless of our mistakes and sins.

There are many instances in the Bible where evil leaders and heartless enemies have found children as easy prey. Pharoah gave his midwives directions to kill the newborn males of the Hebrews from which Baby Moses escaped (Exodus 1:16). During the reign of an Israelite king, his enemies attacked and ripped babies from the bellies of the Israelite women (2 Kings 15:16). In the Book of Jeremiah, the Word of the Lord describes Judah’s idolatry to Baal and Molech by causing their children to be sacrificed by fire to Molech (Jeremiah 32:35).

Perhaps the most well told story of children being heartlessly killed in the Bible, was when King Herod slew the male children from two years old and under in Bethlehem and the surrounding districts with the hope of killing the newborn King [Jesus] who was worshipped by the wise men from the east (Matthew 2:16).

So why is this history-long hatred of children and our present-day escalation? I believe it is a ploy of Satan. Oh, I know, some who consider themselves enlightened think this is an archaic notion spread by a Bible-thumping hillbilly preacher. I’ll gladly take my chances with my “archaic notions” in the Great Reckoning.

The target of Satan has always been on the ones who carry the image of God—mankind. Who carries the image of God more profoundly than a child? Listen to what Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3 NKJV). And He also said, “It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones” (Luke 17:2 NKJV).

Please understand the indicators of evil (Satan) and good (God). Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it [life] more abundantly” (John 10:10 NKJV).

The indicators of evil (of Satan) are the things or entities that steal, kill, and destroy.

The indicators of good (of God) are the things or entities that promote life and the abundance of life.

Some might say it is more complicated than that. NO! It’s not. Just simple common sense tells the true story. Blabbering mouths who are puppets of evil use complicated speech to cloud the thinking of others. A lie covered in glitter is still a lie.

There is nothing more honorable and blessed than an old man or an old woman who has lived a life of completion for God, family, and community.

There is nothing more precious than a newborn baby. There is nothing sadder than a short grave.
