How to Fix the World

The basic unit of any society is the home. Many of our problems in society are caused by the breakdown of the home. Home is where the problems begin, and it is where the solutions begin. The talking heads in our country like to ignore the operation manual (The Bible) and refit society according to our brokenness. This is like trying to build a house on sand.

With a simple online search, one can easily see a correlation of poverty and societal problems as it relates to the downward spiral of basic family structures in all demographics.

God established the family. In the beginning chapters of the Bible, we see a pattern of creation that brought order out of chaos. The world in the beginning verses of Genesis was dark, lifeless, and covered with water. The Spirit of God hovered over the chaotic waters and God began to speak life. He created light, the expanse of the atmosphere, land, plants, organized the lights, created fish and birds, then land creatures, and last of all man, in that order.

Out of one man, God would populate the world. We all came from one blood. He began by creating the woman out of the man. This was the first family unit and He commanded them to populate and subdue the earth.

Genesis 2:21-25 NKJV
(21) And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.
(22) Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
(23) And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”
(24) Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
(25) And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

God took the woman out from the side of man, near his heart and lungs. The heartbeat of the family and the breath of life are the regions where the woman came out of man. Biblically speaking, the man is the head of the family, yet the woman is the heart of the family. It takes both and it is a beautiful pattern that fulfills the purpose of God in the home and on the earth.

Adam saw himself in the woman Eve. He called her bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. Bones represent the structure of the family and flesh and blood represent the substance of life and living. It is no wonder we use the phrase, “of my own flesh and blood” when we speak of our family.

Adam had named the animals, but no other creature looked like him. Eve was like him but distinct from him. God loves diversity with a purpose. Our society has tried to homologize the sexes, but God made us distinct for good reasons.

The state of the original man and woman was in a perfect world unmarred by sin. They were naked yet unashamed but eventually sin was unleashed by their disobedience.

The marital home is a place where we can be stripped to just who we are and be unashamed. The most powerful man in the world with all the attachments of wealth and power is nothing but a husband and a father when he comes home. A woman who is a celebrity with world-wide admiration because of her talent, is nothing but a wife and mother to her family.

God calls us together as a family, to multiply and to be sent into the world to subdue it for the purpose of God.

Before there was a woman, there was a man.
Before there was a child, there was a man and a woman.
Before there was a tribe, there was a family.
Before there was a nation, there was a tribe.

We need biblical marriages and families. They are the building blocks of society and nations. If we use flawed building materials the structure will eventually fall. Perhaps we feel the shaking of our nation because of the faulty building materials we have incorporated into the structure.

I can’t fix your family, but I can work on mine. You can’t fix your neighbor’s family, but you can work on yours. Let’s start there…

Yours on the Journey,
